ROBOT KOCH, mente maestra berlinesa en la produccion del grupo JAHCOOZI, amo de los breaks, el dubstep y la nueva onda barefoot, y quien tambien es dueño de el label ROBOTS DONT SLEEP, concedio una entrevista a su servidor, donde habla de su nuevo EP "Listen to them Fade", su estancia y experiencias en Mèxico, barefoot y mas :D.
Debido al formato del blog solo podre postearlo en Ingles y Español, ya que como sabran en Frances suckeo, y en Chino ni se diga (Lo siento)..
ROBOT KOCH, berlin master mind in the production of the great JAHCOOZI, master of breaks, dubstep and barefoot new wave, is also owner of the ROBOTS DONT SLEEP label, he gave us this nice interview to the blog, where he talks about his new EP "Listen to them Fade", his recently visit to Mèxico, barefoot and so much more :D.
Due the blog format, i will only post the interview in English and Spanish, you know, my French sucks, and my Chinese well... too! (sorry)..

BOOTLEGUMACHINE :First i want to thank you for letting me ask you more about yourself, and your art man... i love your work in Jahcoozi and so as Robot Koch, loved your brand new EP.. its dark but it can also shine through my speakers.. it is a pleasure to me..
ESP//Antes que nada quisiera agradecer que me permitas preguntar acerca de ti y tu arte.. Adoro tu trabajo con JAHCOOZI al igual que ROBOT KOCH, me encanto tu nuevo EP.. es obscuro pero a la vez brilla a travez de mis bocinas.. es un placer para mi..

BOOTLEGUMACHINE : The new Jahcoozi EP is called "Barefoot Wanderer", an obvious
reference to this new Barefoot style thing. Tell us, as a producer, how do you envision this new sound.
ESP//El nuevo EP de JAHCOZZI se llama "Barefoot Wanderer" (Vagabundo Descalzo), una clara referencia al nuevo estilo Barefoot. Dinos, como productor, como visualizas este sonido.
ROBOT KOCH: Well the name barefoot was coined by vienna based producer stereotyp, who i think is a dope producer. The idea behind it is to free yourself from the genre bozes and just walk barefoot between the narrow lines that define genres. We had a remix competition on soundcloud for the new Jahcoozi EP and it was nice to see that there where a lot of kids coming up with fresh ideas with what they call barefoot. so the idea is spreading.. .its not about defining it so much its about making bass music and being open to all sorts of influences....
ESP//Bueno, el nombre barefoot (descalzo) fue denominado por el productor de Vienna STEREOTYP, quien es un loco productor. La idea detras de esto es, liberarte de las normas del genero y simplemente caminar descalzo entre las delgadas lineas que lo definen. Tuvimos un concurso de remixes en Soundcloud para el nuevo EP de Jahcoozi lo cual estuvo bien para ver que hay varios chicos con nuevas y frescas ideas de lo que ellos llaman barefoot, asi que la idea se esta esparciendo... no es acerca de definirlo, se trata de hacer musica bass y estar abierto a todo tipo de influencias...


BOOTLEGUMACHINE :How came to your mind the "Listen To Them Fade" music? How was the process and what was your main inspiration?
ESP//Como vino a tu mente la musica de "Listen To Them Fade"? Como fue el proceso y cual fue tu principal inspiracion?
ROBOT KOCH: I like to keep a dark and surreal feel to my music. Its sort of spiritual too, inspired by ancient religions and art. My trip to mexico, where i made the EP had a deep impact on me. the art of artists like leonora carrington, who lived and worked in mexico for
a long time as well as the ancient culture of the country. The surreal and spiritual vibe in it is due to these inspirations, with the drums and the whole feel of a ceremonial sacrifice which again was
inspired by visiting ancient maya and atztec sites in Mèxico.. you may wonder what the title is all about...who or what is fading, well... its us and our planet.
We know we mess up our planet and we know we got the means to change it but dont do anything about it, or way too little. Just take the summit in copenhagen as an example of the bold ignorace, it was fucking desaster. Experts estimate that we are losing 137 plant, animal and insect species every single day due to rainforest deforestation. that is just one example.
And we dont care a shit. We just listen to them fade....
ESP//Me gusta mantener un sentimiento obscuro y surrealista en mi musica. Es de cierta manera espiritual tambien, inspirado por las religiones ancestrales y el arte. Mi viaje a Mèxico, donde hice el EP tuvo un profundo impacto en mi. El arte de artistas como Leonora Carrington, quien vivio y trabajo en Mèxico por un largo tiempo al igual que la cultura ancestral de el pais. La vibra surrealista y espiritual en el es debido a estas inspiraciones, con tambores y con ese sentimiento de sacrificio ceremonial que de nuevo fue inspirado por las visitas a lugares ancestrales Mayas y Aztecas en Mèxico.. tal vez te preguntes de que se trata el titulo (En español "Escuchalos desvanecerse").... quien o que esta desvaneciendo... somos nosotros y nuestro planeta. Nosotros sabemos que hemos deshecho nuestro planeta y sabemos que tenemos los medios para cambiarlo pero no hacemos nada al respecto, ni siquiera un poco. Simplemente toma la cumbre de Copenhagen como ejemplo de nuestra marcada ignorancia, fue un maldito desastre. Expertos estiman que estamos perdiendo 137 especies de plantas, animales e insectos cada dia debido a la deforestacion de nuestra selva tropical. Ese es simplemente un ejemplo. Y ni siquiera nos importa un carajo. Simplemente los escuchamos desvanecerse....


BOOTLEGUMACHINE :What do you think is the difference between your past album and this brand new one?.
ESP//Cual piensas es la diferencia entre tu anterior album y este nuevo?
ROBOT KOCH:I feel its becoming more and more what i wanted to do, i managed to develop a feel for what i like and what i can do well, before i was sometimes too confused with many possibliites, cuz i can do very different stuff, sometimes its about focusing and not doing certain things, even if you could do them. now i think its more and more my own unique sound. als the new jahcoozi album is more focused than the previous ones.
ESP//Siento que se esta convirtiendo mas y mas en lo que he querido hacer, he manejado el desarrollar esa sensacion de lo que me gusta y lo que puedo hacer bien, antes estaba demasiado confundido con tantas posibilidades, por que puedo hacer diferentes tipos de cosas, y muchas veces se trata de concentrarte en no hacer ciertas cosas, aunque las puedas hacer. Ahora pienso es cada vez mas y mas mi propio y unico sonido. Al igual el nuevo album de Jahcoozi esta mas enfocado que los anteriores.


BOOTLEGUMACHINE :I know you have been here in Mèxico..
What is your impression of our country? is what you expected to be?
ESP//Se que estuviste aqui en Mexico... Cual es tu impresion de nuestro pais? Era lo que esperabas?
ROBOT KOCH: Like i said earlier it had a deep impact on me. i love this country, my girlfriend is mexican too, so we traveled around, visited her family and stuff like that. It was different from what i expected, i didnt think i would love DF so much, i heard its big and loud and dirty...which it is, but i didnt think i would feel so much at home there. i made the whole new EP on the kitchentable in our flat in la roma in DF. i will come back to mexico for sure, no doubt :).
ESP//Como dije hace un momento, dejo un impacto muy profundo en mi. Amo su pais, mi novia es mexicana tambien, asi que hemos viajado, visitado su familia y cosas asi. Fue diferente a lo que esperaba, nunca pense que amaria tanto el DF, escuche que era grande, ruidoso y sucio.. y lo es, pero nunca pense sentir esa sensacion de estar en casa. Hice todo el el nuevo EP en nuestro desayunador en nuestro lugar en la Roma del DF. Regresare a Mèxico seguramente, sin duda :).


BOOTLEGUMACHINE :Tell us, did you have experienced any weird moment in your past
visit to Mexico.(I know it could, i live in here, and i experience any kind of wacko moments all the time)
ESP//Dinos, tuviste alguna experiencia o momento extraño en esa visita a Mèxico.(Se que pudo pasar, yo vivo aqui, y vivo todo tipo de experiencias y momentos extraños todo el tiempo)
ROBOT KOCH: Well to be honest, sometimes my experience with playing shows there was not the best...sometimes i was told one thing, and then again another thing, it ws hard to get a reliable statment from the promoters sometimes about money and the whole details, like traveling and all, i did it without my booking agency, just through some friends, but this turned out be a mistake...too much communication failure and one time i didnt even get payed at all because of because of some mis communication between too many people playing party promoter...some shows were really dope though, so it was a very mixed experience.
Esp//Bueno, para serte honesto, a veces mis experiencias tocando en shows nunca fueron los mejores... a veces me decian una cosa, despues otra, era dificil tener palabras confiables de los promotores, a veces se trataba del dinero y todos los demas detalles, como el traslado y eso, como lo hice sin mi agencia de booking, fue a travez de algunos amigos, pero a veces todo termino por ser un error... mucha falta de comunicacion, una vez no me pagaron para nada, todo dpor la falta de comunicacion entre demasiadas personas jugando al promotor de fiestas.... algunos de mis shows estuvieron delirantes creo, asi que fue una experiencia muy mezclada..


BOOTLEGUMACHINE :Your new EP i also to be released in Cassette Format... why this format?
ESP//Tu nuevo EP saldra en formato de Cassette... por que este formato?
ROBOT KOCH:I love the good old tape, i had the project the tape vs rqm for a
reason, it was all dedicated to the culture of mixtapes. so when gordon from project mooncircle kicked it to me to do a bonus mixtape on an actual cassette tape..i was like hell yeah, lets do it!!
i loved making mixtapes for my friends back in the day, customized
mixtapes for my girlfriends back then, its kinda romantic to make mixtapes, you sit down and records selection of songs that you want some person to hear, you make it for them its very personal, not like burning a cd or copying tons of mp3 from one harddrive to another...
ESP//Amo el buen y viejo tape, tuve el proyecto The tape vs RQM por una razon, fue dedicado completaente a la cultura del mixtape, asi que cuando Gordon del proyecto Mooncircle me lo lanzo para hacer un bonus Mixtape en un Cassette tape fisico... fue como decir pero por supuesto, hagamoslo!!. he amado hacer mixtapes para mis amigos antes, mixtapes personalizados para mis novias de entonces, es medio romantico hacer mixtapes, uno se sienta y graba una seleccion de canciones que quieres que una persona escuche, uno hace esto para esas personas, es muy personal, no es como quemar un cd o copiar una tonelada de Mp3 de un disco duro a otro...


BOOTLEGUMACHINE :What are you listening to recently?
ESP//Que es lo que estas escuchando ultimamente?
ROBOT KOCH:I love eskmo, loops haunt, i listen to a lot of old stuff too like tim
buckley, linda perhacs and moondog of course.
ESP//Amo eskmo, loops haunt, escucho todo tipo de cosas viejas tambien, como TIM BUCKLEY, LINDA PERHACS y MOONDOG por supuesto.


BOOTLEGUMACHINE :A lot of producers always wonder about the gear so, i
got to ask you this...
ESP//Muchos productores siempre se preguntan acerca del equipo (para producir) asi que, tengo que preguntarte acerca de esto...
ROBOT KOCH: I use ableton live both on stage and in the studio, i record a lot of audio material from different sources (like old analog synthesizers like korg ms20, prophet, moog etc...but also just nature sounds like wood and stuff and i just layer them and chop em up, re-arrange them, i work mainly with audio snippets of stuff i recorded, i hardly use any plug ins or midi instruments....
ESP//Uso Ableton Live tanto para el escenario y el estudio, grabo mucho material de audio de diferentes fuentes (como viejas syntethizadores analogos como Korg MS20, Prophet, Moog, etc)... pero tambien solo sonidos naturales como madera y cosas, asi simplemente los pongo en capas y los corto, re-arreglo, trabajo principalmente con trozos de audio o cosas que he grabado, dificilmente uso plug ins o instrumentos midi.


BOOTLEGUMACHINE :Do you have any new gear in your studio that made some difference in the creation of your new album?
ESP//Tienes algun equipo nuevo en tu estudio que haya hecho la diferencia en la creacion de tu nuevo album?
ROBOT KOCH: I had no new gear, just my laptop on the kitchentable:) but i recorded
some guitars and a lot of vocals with grace at some friend`s place in
DF
ESP//No tengo equipo nuevo, solo mi laptop en el desayunador :) pero grabe algunas guitarras y muchas vocales con Grace y algunos amigos en nuestro lugar en el DF.


BOOTLEGUMACHINE :Finally, do you know any Mexican, Latin American Dj,
Producer, or Artist that have catch up your attention?
ESP//Finalmente, conoces algun Dj, Productor o Artista Mexicano o Latinoamericano que haya llamado tu atencion?
ROBOT KOCH: Signal deluxe from df are friends, they do some good stuff, also this girl regina puma, who also does a really good radio show in DF, also ricardo guzan aka nixon played some good tunes and of course algorythm and blues, who did a nice live set at this club imperial after i played.
ESP//Signal deluxe del DF son mis amigos, ellos hacen muy buenas cosas, tambien esta chica Regina puma, quien hace tambien un buen show de radio en el DF, tambien ricardo guzan aka nixon toca buenas rolas, y por supuesto Algorythm and blues, quienes hicieron un buen live set en El Imperial despues de que yo tocara.


BOOTLEGUMACHINE :Thank you very much, if you have any message or closing thoughts for your Latin American audience, here is the moment bro.
ESP//Muchas gracias, si tienes algun mensaje o quieres cerrar con algun pensamiento para tu audiencia Latino Americana, este es el momento.
ROBOT KOCH: You are wonderful, i love the experiece i had in mexcio, i`m curious to explore more countries in middle and latin america ! Stay open minded and see you at my next tour (probably in early 2011).
ESP//Son maravillosos, ame la experiencia de haber estado en Mèxico, me da curiosidad explorar mas paises en centro y latinoamerica! Mantenganse abiertos de mente y los veo en mi siguiente tour (probablemente a principios del 2011)
